Through its Cultural Bridges program linking Australia and Sicily, I. C. S. A. supports and promotes accademic, cultural and artistic programs and events of interest to members from both countries. In addition I. C. S. A. offers, in collaboration with organizations selected specifically for the quality and merit of their services, a number of programs specifically designed to promote local culture, education and the arts. Members interested in participating in these activities will be assisted and supported by I. C. S. A. during the course of their studies.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE FOR FOREIGNERS

 

 

I. C. S. A. offers, through the collaboration of a number of Australian universities and other qualified institutions, courses in English as a Second Language. These courses offer accreditation to international language Standards such as English as a Second Language (ESL) and Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL)

OPERA MASTER CLASSES

Specifically designed for students of Operatic singing, these Masterclasses are conducted by internationally acclaimed artists. The Masterclass are offered in  Firenze, Roma, Palermo, Catania and Melbourne.

ARCHEOLOGICAL FIELD SCHOOLS- SUMMER CAMPS

I. C. S. A. provides the opportunity to students of Archeology and history as well as interested members to partake in archeological Field Schools at digs in Sicily. The study will be carried out under the supervision  of expert archeologists. The Summer Camps also include guided visits to the most important archeological sites in Sicily.

 COURSES IN ABORIGINAL ART AND CULTURE

Offered in Australia and in Sicily, these courses provide the opportunity to study aboriginal culture and art. These courses feature the collaboration with Aboriginal Elders, artists, and Indigenous cultural organizations.

COURSES IN THE ART OF CERAMICS

These courses, held in the workshops of established and highly appreciated sicilian ceramists focus on the unique ceramics’ tradition of Caltagirone and Santo Stefano di Camastra. The courses will cover all aspects of production and will provide an historial overview of the ancient tradition of ceramic making in Sicily.

COURSES IN PAPYRUS PAPER MAKING

These courses are held in the most prestigious workshop of Siracusa, the centre of papyrus paper making in Sicily. Included in the course are a visit to the River Ciano and a guided study tour of the Museo del Papiro.

PAINTING CLASSES

Classes are held both in Sicily and Australia with the collaboration of local established artists, Accademies of Fine Art and Art Schools. Painting classes are also offered as part of specifically designed Art Tours to Sicily and Australia.

COOKING CLASSES

Run in Sicilia (Palermo, Valderice, Scicli e Viagrande ) from the kitchens and with the involvement of Master Chefs specialising in Sicilian Regional Cooking. The courses include visits to famous markets, herb farms, traditional cellars, oil presses, producers of typical local produce, trattorie and restaurants of note. The classes use hands-on methodology.

In Australia, Cooking lessons are offered in International, Asian, regional and intercontinental cuisine in collaboration with Registered Cooking Schools at TAFE level. Cooking lessons are also offered, upon request,  as part of tours of Sicily and Australia. Specialized enogatronomic tours are also offered for lovers of good food, professional chefs and restaurantors.

COURSES FOR SOMMELIER and WINE TASTING

Run in Sicilia in collaboration with organizations able to issue, after successful National exams results, the Licence in Sommelier and relative registration to ONAV (National Register of Sommeliers). Included in the course are also visits to Wine Cellars of note, degustations and participation in grape harvests. In Australia the courses are run in collaboration with relevant organizations able to issue the internationally recognised licence of Master Sommelier. Courses aiming at an appreciation of Australian wines are also provided as are intenational Wine Tasting courses.

 THE CULTURE OF TOURISM AND TOURISM FOR CULTURE

I. C. S. A. offers its members Free Advice related to the planning of individual and group tours to Sicily or Australia. Our interest, as a culturally focused not-for-profit, is to promote knowledge of these two lands, their culture, people and the arts. Specialized consultation is also offered to businesses and enterprises interested in exploring the opportunities offered by Sicily and Australia as a potential  locations for doing business.

A Certificate of Participation will be issued by I. C. S. A. at the completion of each course.
